Organic Farming

Organic Farming

Producing food item without using harmful fertilisers and pesticides is called Organic Farming. This is very much required to maintain good health. Then the question arises on how to grow plants and animals organically?

OK, let's start somewhere and try to understand how to get success in organic farming. Either it is the matter of growing plants or animals you need to start somewhere.

  1. First thing first. To start a farm, you need some piece of land. It can be your home terrace. Prepare the area with some containers for planting or growing some commercial pet animals.
  2. Get the required raw materials to start the process. For growing veggies you must get the best soil so that you won't spend more time on growing the plants faster and lustrous.
  3. Buy the best seeds or breeds to grow the best plants or animals to market them easily.
  4. Watering and feeding comes next after the initial growth.
  5. Once you feel you have more than sufficient items to propagate further, then start marketing your items.
  6. Make money and invest that to grow your business.
You must take this seriously and always plan to "Make it big". Make use of every opportunity you get to expand your business either in terms of marketing your products to neighbours till getting some training from experienced farmers.

I will share my experience on a continual basis how I am doing this to get success. Today I stand as below,

I started my small farm on my terrace of about 35 sft. I started with a regular soil mix with some plant waste and kitchen waste as fertiliser. I planted few spinach roots which we bought from market for food. And from those plants I got some more lusty leaves and after some time I got handful of seeds. I have planted the seeds again and now I have some more spinach plants and they are growing slowly. I am in the process of preparing the compost with the mixture of kitchen waste and some vegetable leaves. For that I have prepared one more permanent plant container of around 20 sft on the terrace. Now I am getting hand full of nice spinach every 4 to 5 days to use it in the curry while the soil is getting ready.

Planning to expand slowly without investing too much. Thank you to one family who are allowing me to collect some cow dung for free to use in my compost. I have good number of earth worms in my small cute farm. They are helping me keep the farm fertile. In this small farm I have already grown few pumpkin plants from which I have successfully harvested a good number of pumpkin flowers to make health religious food also got two pumpkins of medium sizes. All organic. I did not use any fertilisers or insecticides.

Planning to go long with this. May God bless me with sufficient fertile land and support from the community.
